Shard of Glass Breaking Ground Soon

Bizarrely, the drawings submitted with the current application to amend the conditions on the TB Bennett scheme for the offices spanning the existing station (so that the station redevelopment can be phased) still show both Southwark Towers and New London Bridge House in place.

[I'd much prefer it if Renzo Piano (or Santiago Calatrava) was in charge of the station redesign rather than Bennetts.]

It's a nice building, but I don't think its in the right place ,and if they do start duming it down, that will increase the concerns of the Tower of London, and it might be better if it doesn't get built, at least in its current location, and size.

Sorry to be dumb - is it actually on the cards that it won't be built in its current location and size?

So it's not on the cards that it won't be built in its current location and size?

^ There's no way in hell they would change the location. For a start, there are height limits and numerous sightlines to St Paul's etc. London Bridge Station is about the only place in London where a structure of this size could be built. And Boris Johnson would most likely veto a new planning application.
Anyway, the project is too advanced now. Piling work is scheduled to begin on part of the site in the next month or two. After talking to my pals on SkyscraperCity.com, I think I over-reacted to that earlier article. The Arabs funding the project have bucketloads of money, and probably won't be deterred by these (relatively minor) cost overruns - bearing in mind, the final value of the completed tower will be in excess of £1.2 billion... and the property markets will have recovered by the time it's built in 2012. I've also spoken to somebody directly involved in the development of the tower and they seem fairly confident it's on track.
@ Micky Salt - your typical BS negative trolling is unwelcome on this thread.

Anyway, isn't lots of it pre-let? What proportion? The Shard will be phenomenal with the intended glass cladding. As I walk down the More London avenue from City Hall past m+s I look up to see the old PW pile coming down and imagine the awesome new image that will confront me from close up. Talk about visual drama. I can't wait.
What with the Elephant do-over + the armies of lawyers and accountants and consultants in More London + an army of new Southwark Council folk in Tooley Street + the Shard + Baby Shard + the new Bermondsey Market + Boris ..the London Bridge scene will be pretty bustling.

Oops, that last posting from me was a keyboard malfunction. What I wanted to say was thanks for the reassurances ... I too am really looking forward to see it happen.
