Scary. If it's like that in midwinter what will it be like in the summer? I hope you can find some good blinds or something but what a terrible shame that you should have to!
Probably better, as the sun is higher in the sky.
Even when it's rising and setting?
Glare to a specific window, will only happen for a few minutes a day over a period of about 5 days, twice a year. As the glass windows don't move, and the flat in the glare doesn't move, the only variable is the position of the sun, and this changes during the day in a horizontal direction, and changes each day in a vertical direction. in a few days, the sun will be higher in the sky, and the glare will have moved lower down your building.
As the building is slanted though, you might find that other windows reflect the sun into your flat, at different times of the day, which is unlike the gherkin, and city hall - these buildings are like glitter balls, and there's a lot more different angles of glass so more likely to be glare from those.

I am not one of those on this thread who seem to uncritically (and relentlessly) advertise their worship of the Shard, but that remark is just plain rude. Just my personal opinion, but at this time of year I welcome a blast of reflected sunshine through my north facing windows!

I did register there once, but can't remember the login or password. I'm not sure why you think I am one from there, or why I'm a troll, or why my post is trolling. If you'd care to take a look at my post history, you'll see that I've been on this forum a long time, in various guises, but I think I registered back in 2003 or 2004. I do like The Shard, but that doesn't mean that I'm breathless with excitement for every tall building - some of them really do suck!
I was just offering my advice on the question at hand, but thanks for your input.

Whoa jackie! Watch what, exactly?
Read my comment again. You should be able to understand that I was objecting to the 'troll' insult directed at JonR by Davies. I was NOT dissing the fact that JonR had taken the trouble to give that technical explanation of reflected sunlight. I WAS objecting to Davies judgemental assumption about him.
Still not a fan of the Shard, though. Wrong building, wrong place imo, for what that's worth.

The whole point of this Forum is sharing opinions, so I do put value on yours as well.

There is one building steeling the night sky at the moment and its not the Shard of glass its St Paul’s cathedral, since they brightened the floodlighting its positively spectacular.
As for the Shard, the taller it got the smaller it became, it has actually ended up making st Paul’s look bigger.
The shards roll is secondary not a landmark in itself, and from close quarters positively dull.

I'd like to think that met the architect's (if probably not the developer's) intention.
Long seemed to me that the more the glass cladding went up (and up), the more the building faded from sore-thumb prominence and just blended in. My main frustration is how long it's now taking to get the pointy top on!

I agree. I look out of the window every day and there seems to be a halt in the progress. Anyone know why?
Davies Wednesday 29 February 2012 7.04pm
I'm starting to wonder if that's as pointy as the wretched thing is going to get. I hope not, I refer to it as "Mr Pointy" after Buffy the Vampire Slayers favourite stake as it looks like a stake through the heart of the planet poking out from the other side and this isn't going to work so well if it has a flat top haircut.
