Buses diverted around E&C

I got the bus (1) to Euston this morning (couldn't face the rain for once) and it was diverted away from Elephant and Castle, up Georges Road before meeting back up with the route at St Georges Circus.

Anyone know why? Thanks

Tree partially down on London Road - opposite Blackwells bookshop.
