Does anyone know of a tailor/dressmaker who would be able to replace a lining in a coat? I've asked at various dry cleaners but none seem to be able to do it. The coat is in perfect condition except for a tattered lining. Any suggestions most welcome!

There is a dry cleaners that do alterations on Tower Bridge road (south of Bermondsey square) opposite the Hartley. Unfortunately I don't have the name/number for you to call and check what specific work they carry out but if you live nearby it is worth trying. Shop is on a corner and has large glass panes.

They are very friendly and helpful and took out the waist of a pair of trousers for me once - they seemed flexible in terms of the range of work they do.

They lost my trousers. Took them two weeks to find them and not even a discount for the inconvenience.

No connection, but I have found a tailor on Walworth Road (just south of Baldwins and the Town Hall) good. It's called Threadneedleman Bespoke Tailors, 187a Walworth Road, SE17 (020 7701 9181). http://www.threadneedlemantailors.co.uk/

They (the one's opposite the Hartley) gave me a bottle of wine at Christmas which I thought was really nice considering I don't go there very often.

Unfortunately I would say BOTH of these are true about Crystal Dry Cleaners on TBR. They are very friendly AND they routinely seem to have problems keeping track of my clothers.

I have had clothes I brought in to them for repair given back to me at times neatly pressed - and not repaired! :-)

The one opposite the Hartley is also run by very nice people, but IMO their tailor is not great and they are not that professional with the tailoring at all.

Thanks very much eveyone. I phoned the treadneedleman tailors and he was helpful. He said to replace the lining would be c. 150. He also recommended The Alteration Station near Clapham Common tube as being very good. I phoned them and they said it would be 80-90. I didn't realise it would be so expensive. I may as well get a new coat!
