does anybody know of a local charity or organisation (perhaps sheltering homeless people) that would take second hand electrical items? I have a TV and a stereo which are not worth selling, but they do still work, so I don't really want to destroy them. thanks.

The best place for the television would be in one of many elderly long stay wards at St Thomas's. Yesterday a patient's relative left a television there and it was gratefully received by the staff. These poor old souls have nothing to do all day except stare glumly at each other across the ward.

The British Heart Foundation on Old Kent Road have a large charity store specifically dedicated to shifting electrical goods. Its half way between bricklayers roundabout and Tesco's.

You can take them to the recycle centre off Manor Place (off Walworth Rd) - they use them for local youth centres and stuff.
