Southwark's Tooley Street move
weety Sunday 30 September 2007 12.23am
trouble is (for whatever reason) most of southwark is slow and difficult to access by public transport
the council seems to have made a decision to move into an area well served by public transport to attract (retain) staff
dunno if thats good/bad (or just expensive!)

I wonder if many of southwarks staff will be able to drive and park their cars at London Bridge. Years ago most staff at southwark lived locally so transport was not an issue.

At the moment there are almost no parking spaces for Southwark staff unless you are an 'essential user' or manager. I can't imagine there will be any change, possibly even a squeeze on the essential users as there is no parking near the new offices.

as a local authority i would have thought southwark would be leading the way with moving away from cars and on to public transport/cycles/walking etc
why do managers get to have cars?

yes, you can reduce the number of parking spaces, but people will still use their own car, esp if they are parents, or disbabled or just prefer their car or are lazy. managers (i wouldn't have thought) won't get company car, so will be their own vehicle

There's now a planning application for alterations to the entrance of 160 Tooley Street, including the Southwark Council logo in large letters on either end of the canopy above the pavement.

Given the long history of Southwark, why does the council have such an eyesore of a logo? Does anyone know if Southwark has ever had a more attractive logo than the current graffiti scrawl? The sign will detract greatly from an otherwise attractive building, IMHO.

I am sure the area will be boosted by 2000 workers moving in. They will probably spend their money in the existing premises and not force them out of business or force them up market which is what usually happens when city banks and law firms move in. Oh and they make use of the Potters Field site which is so beloved of you locals.
