Hello and hi, my name is Paul Wild and I live in SE1. Can anyone help me regarding the origin of the name of the street off of Long Lane called Wild's Rents. Its such an odd name for a street and London being London it must have an interesting reason for being so called. In return for for any information regarding this matter I will provide the full history and meaning behind any badge worn on the shirts of any football team of your choice in the English football league as that is my specialist subject. Thanks for your time. Warmest regards.

There are a few streets called [somebody's] Rents.

I'd always supposed that they once used to belong to [somebody], or that they belonged to [another body], but that [somebody] was entitled to the income from them.

But I don't know who Wild is, sorry. You could try the local history section of the John Harvard Library in Borough High St. They are supposed to be good.

...if you press it, they will come.

THANKS JAN, MILLWALL SUPPORTER AY, I SUPPORT SOUTHAMPTON MYSELF. YOUR BADGE IS MADE UP OF TWO LIONS WHICH ARE FROM THE SCOTLAND COAT OF ARMS SO THEY ARE NOT ENGLISH. IF YOU LOOK ON THE SCOTLAND FLAG YOU WILL SEE THEY ARE THE SAME. THIS IS BECAUSE MILLWALL WERE FORMED FROM WORKERS IN A JAM FACTORY ON THE ISLE OF DOGS AND THESE WORKERS WERE ALL SCOTS THIS IS ALSO THE REASON WHY MILLWALL PLAY IN BLUE. THE TEAM ALTHOUGH QUITE SUCCESSFUL COULD NOT DRAW CROWS AS THE ISLE WAS AN INDUSTRIAL ESTATE AND NO BODY LIVED THERE SO THEY MOVED TO BERMONDSEY AND THE REST AS THEY SAY IS HISTORY. GOOD LUCK FOR NEXT SEASON. PAUL.
