Jan,

On the TUC website, <www.tuc.org.uk> there is quite a few helpful passages on the subject of bullying at work. It can be found in the health and safety section of the website and then under the heading bullying/violence at work.

Then you can also contact them to ask for further advice and they will help with any action in the majority of cases.

Hope it all gets sorted out for him soon and that this helps.

This sort of behaviour needs to brought to public attention. It is appauling that a young lad should be treated like this in what is supposed to be a more enlightened 21st century. I have a disability myself and used to work for Southwark. A lot of attention is given to politcal coreectness but, in my experience, very little is given to the day to day practicalities of the work place. Please get the union involved, and Nick Stanton. Good luck.

Thank you every body, the Union have been contacted already apparently, but if I have understood the boy's Mum correctly - not much seems to be going on there.

James put in sickness certificates but did not receive sick pay, then a very large chunk of his monthly salary was stopped in one chunk , without any prior arrangement on his part , for money he had received in error ( ? ) The Union are looking at this.

The payslips are so confusing to understand as well. I think they need the equivalent of the Plain English Society! I will be seeing the lad tonight and will ask how things are going.

Harriet, we phoned that number and there was a very terse message advising that it was a benefits advice line, and that the phone would not take messages, it did not even give an address for the unit, just as well the information the give would not apply to young James.

I have forwarded Nick Stanton the posts from here a few days ago.
It is a very worrying situation for the boy's Mum as she has had a mastectomy and naturally she is concerned for the boys future.

One of his tormentors returned to work after a period of leave and started on him straight away...I have told the boy to make notes if possible. But the Union show no inclination to help him.

So now what? poor lad, his poor Mum....

All they have to do is to transfer him away from these penis heads..

would it be worth getting a local paper to do an article on this ? Or even write to our local MP.

That may be a very strong possibilty too Jai.....especially if the kid gets worried for his personal safety and leaves......

My sympathies to him and his close family... Makes me very angry just thinking about it...

A bit too much information which could identify him in your email. Hope this isn't abused in any way.

Email Nick Stanton immediately so an investigation can get going a.s.a.p. because this will take a while.

Did he join the Union at LBS? Unison are very helpful and have an information line even if you aren't a member.

Sue, I did e-mail nick stanton, and the union are not taking him seriously I think...

Jan,

As I understand the remit of the Disability Advice Line, it is wider than just benefits - but obviously not being used as such in practice.

I think the suggestion of getting the union involved is the most likely to lead to results, but one other helpful source of information might be Southwark Disablement Association whose helpful website proclaims:

"Providing information, help and advice
for people between the ages of 18 and 64, with sensory and/or physical disabilities, living in Southwark."

Not sure if your friend lives in Southwark as well as works there, but there are contact numbers and an e:mail enquiry form on there too.
