I'm re-decorating my new flat and was thinking about painting the concrete floor rather than putting down wood.

Does anyone know some one who specialises in this and would be prepared to take on this job?

There is no real need for a specialist...floor paint is readily available in a variety of colours and isnt hard to apply as long as your concrete is even and unpitted. If is isnt, you should pour a layer of resin over it to even it up.

I painted my concrete floor with some floor paint from B&Q. It was quite straightforward from what I can remember - easier than painting a ceiling. It is a bit of a pain not being able to walk on the floor though - I just went out for the day

I did my floor about 9 months ago - it's very easy and inexpensive to do if you do it yourself.

I used Heavy Duty Leyland floorpaint. If you go to the Leyland website you can find instructions about required preparation etc.
I applied two coats. The only tricky thing is that they advise to wait for 24hours until you can walk on it and say it only fully cures after a week. Important is to get the colour right so that it doesn't look cheap. Leyland have a restricted colour palette available and the Nimbus grey wasn't the right colour so I did it again in slate grey which looks great. I really love this seamless 'floor finish' although it's only meant to be temporary. It's very easy to maintain with one exception so far: sparkling wine stains leave slightly brighter spots.... Surprisingly, friends visiting love it too.

I too have used the leyland slate grey, it is very classy looking (if a bit industrial) and sets off furniture and lighting well. one tip is to have lights on the floor as they reflect, which can look really nice
