I am conducting some research in regards to the London College of Communication and the local opinion that surrounds it. I would really appreciate it if some opinions about the university, its students, what it offers and it's status amongst the local community. anything will help.

thank you for your time.

I think lots of people dont really know what it does or what its about. I know there are sometimes exhibitions and things there but they're not widely publicised.

I used to go there, as a local resident, use the library, (take books out) use the darkroom, even attend lectures.
Now, I can't get in- I need a letter from the dean just to get into the library, to read books at a desk.
It used to be a community resource - no more!

I studied there when it was the good old London College of Printing.

What is you want to know?

Are you thinking of studying there?

Not sure if you are after any specific information. But I attended a couple of short courses there recently. My overall opinion is mixed. One class tutor was extemley organised and delivered the course to a very high standand which was excellent, and another class i attended was frustrating as the tutor was consistently late for every lesson and very disorganised.

Hello MsJay, I work in the professional short course department at the LCC and I'm sorry you had a less than satisfactory experience at the college. Could you be more specific about which courses you attended and I'll see if I can find out what went right and what went wrong?

I work at LCC as a lecturer. Most of the BA and MA courses there are pretty good, some are rated as the best in the country. The college is part of University of the Arts London which is a consortium of some of the best art schools in London. Not sure about short courses (not my area) and also not sure about community relationships apart from the fact staff are sometimes involved in organising exhibitions involving/reflecting on the local area and community.

Re the comment above re community access, I would imagine this has been altered by security concerns as with any large public sector organisation in the capital. Most colleges require advance booking to let members of the public in these days to use their libraries, LCC is not doing anything unusual.

I think it's fab that such specialist college's still exist. I just wish the tower block bit of the building wasn't such an eyesore.

all the comments have been really helpful, i would love to hear more about the reputation the university has, good or bad points.
