Does anyone know a good place to go fishing in SE1?

The Thames. It definitely has salmon. Also seals. Should think that you can find carp as well. And SE1 has a fair stretch of river.

Thanks. I'd guessed that the Thames might be a good place to start.

I was really wondering whether anyone had any particular favourite places that they used/had seen used.

on an opposite note, Burgess Park has about the most toxic-looking pond I've ever seen. In the summer it was packed with blokes fishing. How sad is that?

have you tested the waters for toxicity, or did you just rely on the "look-test"?

As the saying goes: "there's many a big fish lurks in murky waters"

I suggest you polish your rod and come along with me. I'll show you something more than an eel.

well, there's an offer.

I admit I didn't get the litmus paper out, but that pond looks mighty bad. Litter around the edges, Old Kent Rd fumes just around the corner, small and no shade so the water is extra-condensed...

what are those fishermen on? Valium??

Eels - I love them.

But, being a traditional food of the ungated masses, I thought I ought to offer sputnik something a bit more waitrose

[no offence to your tastes sputnik]

well, just to shatter your illusions a little, I do most of my shopping in the Riyadh deli on Old Kent Rd.

and I live in an ex-council flat, in quite a rough block with no gates.

so there!

eels it is then sputnik, me old china.

although you must live so near Manze's that the only benefit in catching your own must be to avoid the Saturday morning queues.
