Does anyone know of any music studios around here which are reasonably priced to go in and record with an engineer? Bearing in mind I may go in on my own (and will therefore be the only one paying) I need to make sure it's not overpriced.

Equally as much, it would be nice if any suggestions are for studios that have a bit of character and aren't too messy - I'm not picky by any stretch of the imagination, but I have rehearsed in studios where I've had to move rubbish to have a place to stand!

It would be a major bonus if you know of any studios where the engineers are also able to make a musical contribution if asked...!!!

I don't ask much do I???!!!

I do - although only for myself at the moment. I used to be in a band, but I have one song I wrote and kept for myself which I'd like to record properly...

My daughter and son in law have written some great music and my daughter has recorded it in his back bed room with him playing a great guitar! I must be honest James when I heard the c.d. for the first time I was shocked.. it was great in the industry supposedly.......Any way ..good luck....I bet your a million times better than the Pop Idol winner! :-)

That wouldn't be difficult - I see why Pete Waterman stormed out. Definitely not up to the standard of Will...

Anyway - I digress...further suggestions for studios would be greatly appreciated.

Well, aforementioned PWs studio is situated in Vine Yard SE1, but is probably v. expensive - and across the way is another studio on the site of the space he vacated - but I recall they may specialise in house / garage / shed / lean-to or whatever the latest spiffy stuff is called these days. That's not very useful is it? but I hope you find something suitable.

slight change of topic but I heard that Oasis' first album was recorded in the warehouse-y building (a recording studio, apparently) on Leroy St.

can anyone substantiate that?

It's called Orinoco Studios, and from what I've read, it seems that all of their first three albums were partially recorded or mixed there.

Not sure if I'm jumping on this thread a little late, but I work at Cybersound in Deptford which, while being nearer the cheap'n'cheerful end of the market than some studios mentioned in this thread, is perfectly nice, pretty roomy, and we get a good sound.

I've engineered members of Morcheeba and Feeder, as well as better-known local acts like Menlo Park and a large bundle of less well-known ones. I also play lots of guitarlike instruments, program, and write, so I can help with the actual tunes too.

Feel free to email me at

Plug over... apologies if it's not the done thing to plug oneself on SE1, but I figure if you don't ask you don't get!
