No - it all seems to have been a storm in a teacup. See

It was reported on the local London News a couple of days ago that Southwark Council were banning the Union Flag for the Jubilee celebrations in/on local government buildings, schools and offices. I had a look at the Southwark Council website and could not find anything relating to this story - but I emailed them anyway to express my opinion regarding the alleged article - and as of yet I have heard nothing. (James - I could not get through to your link)

Thanks, I've fixed the link.

Southwark have now issued a press release clarifying the policy - <a href="http://www.southwark.gov.uk/templates/news/viewNews.cfm/press%AC2002022601.htm">click here</a> to read it.

If they had I would have asked my bank to produce cheques with a Union jack flag printed on it and tendered the cheque for payment of council tax.....
