Can someone tell me anything about who is behind the Better Homes thingy (scheme0? I said to a friend that it was something good that the government had done but she said they had to do it. She couldn't explain.

Is it something to do with the government initiative called "decent homes", which aims for social housing to meet a set standard?

Yes I got it wrong. I meant decent homes. My friend is a housing officer and she told me about it a while back and called it 'better homes' and my fragile little mind didn't update it. So it is a government initiative?

Yes - it was launched in 2001. More info on this site:

For a big social landlord like Peabody, the decent homes target means they have to update lots of bathrooms and kitchens. So it's quite onerous - and it may be one reason why they're selling some of their properties, to raise the necessary funds.
