I am just wondering about nice “everyday” red wines. Something you buy in Waitrose, Sainsbury's or Tesco, no more than 10 per bottle. I have been reasonably successful with Montepulciano, some very drinkable Chianti, I failed badly at finding acceptable Cotes du Rhone at that price and so on... I am not talking about starting a cellar, just some nice plonk to pick up when buying nappies and potatoes.

I like "Casillero del Diablo", Cabernet Sauvignon (Chile), around GBP 7 per bottle and very good value for money. Available at Sainsburys and Waitrose, and I think I saw it at Tescos, too.
A strong, fruity wine, goes well with food but I also like to drink it on its own.

I second that!Casillero de Diabilo is the house plonk in our house. We got it at Tesco for nearer 5 a bottle.

I tend to have the Montepulciano from Waitrose that has a picture of a feather or leaf on the front. Quite nice at 6.99 and somteimes comes in at special offers of 4.99

Cuvée de Richard. Unbelievably cheap (around 3.50) from Majestic.

No connection, sadly.

There are some very decent French wines for under 10 at Waterloo Wines on Lant St. No connection...

Unfortunately, nothing, nada, zip.
Following a tooth implant I am on a two week antibiotic course, bummer.

That's terrible, how are you going to survive?

Thanks for the empathy hydrometer,by occasionally gazing longingly into the freezer, where one bottle, (opened), of Grey Goose vodka and one of Stolichnya await my earnest attention, and even better, by eventually realising that as much as I enjoy alcohol I do not NEED it to survive!
