As I'd deviated from the subject on the 'password' thread I thought I'd better start a new one.
Following on from what Jackie last said on that thread reminded me of something that happened many years ago. My dad, like me, was partial to a bet on the horses and, like most punters, he was a little superstitious. His lucky number was thirteen and on one particular Saturday, the 13th of June, which happened to be his birthday, he noticed there was a horse running called 'Happy birthday.' He announced that even though it was an outsider with poor form, it had to be an omen and he would back it. On further inspection, he saw that the horse was number thirteen on the racecard and there were thirteen runners in the race. I then pointed out that the horses name contained thirteen letters. The jockey was Charlie Smirke, (which shows how long ago it was,) and his name also contained thirteen letters. Needless to say, he had a hefty bet on it.
