My Daughter's boyfriend flew out to Australia on Tuesday to visit his brother. We thought it would be nice to send him off with a few extra dollars as a going away present. ('Lager vouchers,' basically.) On her way to work on Monday my wife stopped at the first bank she came to, HSBC, but because she wasn't an account holder they couldn't help her. So she found a branch of NatWest, who she does bank with. They said they didn't keep Ausie dollars in stock, but they could get them in 24 hours. A little more helpful, but no use. She was about to abandon the idea when she walked past Marks & Spencer in Fenchurch Street and it had a sign in the window, 'Bureau de change.'If the banks couldn't help with an 'exotic' currency, what chance M&S?
But she thought it was worth one last try. He's now got his 'lager vouchers,' and what's more they're not just lager vouchers.....They're M&S lager vouchers.
Funny old world.
