Quite right, Jackie.
I confess that in my haste, I didn't at first read all the threads through thouroughly, including yours. So mine was something of a knee-jerk reaction. However, we are on the same lines here. I can't get my head around why anyone would leave their own country in order to start a better life in another, only to try to turn their adopted country in to a replica of the one they abandonded. Unless, of course, there is a more sinister agenda.
Nuf said.

Typically immigrants want both to assimilate and to retain their own culture. That was true of the 1st generation of moslem immigrants from Pakistan and Bangla Desh. The problem arose when subsequent generations were encouraged to disassimilate by multiculturalists - mostly white 'liberals' in government, the BBC, the social sciences. That cultural Marxism led directly to what we have now - aggressive Islamism. There's no security threat from aggressive Buddhism or militant Hinduism or Jihadist Judaism. Same in France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark.

Mark, if the undoubtedly problematic disassimilation (great word by the way) you describe was the only problem here, would you not expect said militant Hinduism or Jihadi Judaism to exist?

Good point. The difference is that Islam is also a coercive political ideology unlike any major modern religion other than atheistic socialism. I've recently associated with admirable moslems in the UK and one very impressive Mao-ist in west Nepal. I can see the attraction when the alternatives are so unimpressive, but the decisive factor is the weakness of western liberal culture, its degradation, its cowardice, its lack of self-belief or enforcement of Enlightenment values. That weakness is provocative and idealistic young men are easily provoked.

It's not the budding terrorists I'm concerned about..(well I AM of course concerned but that's not the point) it's the run-of-the-mill immigrant who refuses to integrate or accept that this is NOT Bangaladesh or Saudi Arabia or Kurdistan or wherever, and insists on having special schools, special dress codes, special buchers, bakers and candlestick makers, as well as having everything translated by interpreters and so on. If you want to come and live in Britain because life is better here then please do conform to the prevailing language and culture. Do NOT expect Britain to conform to YOU. You want to observe a mode of dress or a language or a creed which dictates a totally different way of life..then kindly stay at home. My parents came here from Hungary. They never, ever expected everyone to speak Hungarian and serve hot goulash for school dinners.

Do you actually meet immigrants who demand interpreters? I never have. That whole schtick originated with indigenous white liberals, the multiculturalists, and then grew into the race relations industry.

I have no problem with Jews who run kosher businesses or Hungarian bakers or Moslem candlestick makers. It's great. But I do agree that no taxpayers' money should be spent on the multiculti cult.

Oh and HOW have I met those that need interpreters working in a hospital! Dozens of them. Never mind that everything you get from the Council is translated into innumerable languages with special typefaces. The other trouble I have with today's immigrants is that so often they have heard about our soft-touch benefit system and that's why they come. Not, as was the case years ago, because they admire the British way of life (as demonstrated by their determination to continue with their own way). I know I sound like a mean old bat, but I'm sick of the free loaders jumping on the bandwagon. We have enough free loaders here already never mind importing them!

I've said it before.....Madam Rokotnitz, come over to the dark side.

The difference is you blame immigrants who take what's on offer and I blame the cultural Marxists who supply it (with my money).

Hmmmm Markadams...what does that MEAN exactly? Where is the dark side?
