Now I am an old fashioned lady...where can I buy baby grows that are made of terry towelling? have been searching net all morning but can only find smooth cotton ones that are tight around the wrists and are the devil to get on, so if any young Mums out there could advise us at all?

thank you,
jantoo

Jan,
I've had a word with my eldest daughter who has two little'uns and she says she hasn't seen Terry towelling babygrows for years. Not the news you wanted I'm afraid.

Oh thanks for that Chalkey, it's a whole new world for us old ones, years ago we had laps to change babies on, now we have changing mats, once we had soap and water and cotton wool, now we have pampers wet wipes!

Gee, I must be REALLY old! When I saw the heading 'old fashioned baby things' I was thinking matinee coats, siren suits, breechettes (Remember them?) etc! Babygros are modern in my mind!

Remember them well Beverly! I remember the essential Layette that was required for babes....and I loved the little flannelette nighties that looked like mini christening gowns! with embroidered ducks or flowers on the yokes, the wrap over vests, the matinee sets, siren suits, cant place the breechettes, were they the leggings that had straps that went under the shoes like mini riding breeches?

Babies very rarely go out now days in proper prams which I think is a shame as the newer buggies seem to have babies folded over in a vee shape lol, and what was wrong with boys as well as girls wearing bonnets to keep out the cold as babes?

When you had a baby in Guys the stay was 2 weeks and the nurses took their job seriously by dressing the baby in 'outside' clothes then escorting you out of the hospital saying that until you were off the premises the baby was their responsibility! Makes a change from now, 12 hours later your out.. lol.

I love Call the Midwife with the scenes of the baby clinic, the old fashioned material screens, the weighing scales, the gorgeous old prams, the sunchairs.. and 'ere I go again...waffleing sorry!
