Came across the word 'cavil' in this news item and had to look it up.

I was wondering if it was a word that required disambiguation, but clearly not.

= find fault, object, complain, beef (slang), carp, quibble, kvetch (US, slang), hypercriticize, nit-pick (informal) This is not the time to cavil about petty details.

-ils, -illing, -illed, (US) -ils, -iling, -iled 1.intr; foll by at or about to raise annoying petty objections; quibble; carp

A captious trifling objection

It's going to be one of those words you never heard before and then it appears everywhere, have you noticed how everyone uses the word caveat lately,I reckon it's from the same stable.

Apparently there's a "usual dozen" cavillers (hang on) on this very site.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was the odd gay caviller on here.
