if a builder quoted for an extension and gave a price to 'first fitting' what stage of completion does that include? I know these details would have to be confirmed with the individual but does anyone know what it typically involves?

thanks in advance

first fix is the stage of work up to fixtures and fittings. In general terms it is the point a tradesman can continue to until another trade has to carry out some work, so the first tradesman can continue i.e.

first fix electrical: wiring in the floors and walls up to the point of a socket, but not the socket. wiring to the ceiling rose, but not the connection to the light fitting. Post decoration second fix would be to add sockets, connect to/fit the lights etc.

first fix plumbing: pipes in the floors and walls popping out where a radiator or washing machine might go and stopping. Second fix, adding radiators, taps, boilers after the walls have been prepared.

Its not an exact science but that should give you an idea
