I am hoping someone out there can help. I am trying to trace some family members, they were last known some years ago in the South East area of London.

I have put some photographs here:

25 Hanbys left for New York in the early 1900's.

There isn't a single Hanby in the Central London residential phone book. Must be an unusual name.
I always bring up the Ellis Island site when genealogy is mentioned, as you never know. You may have a multi-millionaire relation in the US to whom you could send a begging letter. THAT"S A JOKE.
I remember reading somewhere that when conversing online, one should always say when one is joking as humour doesn't always cross borders well.

That would be brilliant having a multi millionaire relative!

I'm from SE London myself-i was there briefly last year! I'm from East Dulwich

Where are you from then?

thanks for all your help, it is v much appreciated, maybe (hopefully) if my rele's are still in London they are x directory!

Have you tried 'GenesReconected' it's the family tree side of Friends Reunited. If you register, you can set up the site so that it emails you ever time someone with the same surname is added to the list.

have you looked at the online census for 1900?
or checked at the register offices for the area where they were?

How do i find the online census please? would it deal with the 1970s?

I could check at the register offices but i cant get to London for a while.

Thank you for your suggestions :)

it is the uk 1901 census at this link

as the name suggests it only gives the census data for 1901 because (AFAIK) of data protection acts, we had to wait for 100 years before it was made publicly available

edited because TLMJJ's response is much better than mine!
