In one week I'll visit London and I'm looking for some hints to experience London
- some nice pubs and restaurants
- musicals or performances
- markets
- museums and so on.

I read some tourist guides but mostly they only show the typical London sights.

I'd be happy about some insider tips :-)

There's a thread about this already in the Chatter section...

Also masses of older threads about good things to do in and around SE1 if you use the search function:

Also, just buy Time Out when you get here - it has weekly listings of everything there is to do in London that week.

I've just discovered Columbia Road flower market on a Sunday morning.
What a brilliant site - a normal victorian East End St completely filled up with flowers and plants.

It's a must!

Regent's Park open air theatre if the weather's nice - they do late night performances too. Beautiful surroundings, decent food, jugs of Pimms and a champagne bar... Fantastic!

and combines very well with both the Brick Lane trip already mentioned and a trip to the fabulous Geffrye Museum

I've often taken visitors to Canary Wharf by Docklands Light Railway from Tower Gateway for breakfast, and then onto Island Gardens, walk through the tunnel for a day in Greenwich, before a boat ride back into town. Although I'm not sure if Island Gardens is open now.

Tharg, thats exactly what I recommend to my visitors, when they've had enough of the west end and the standard sights. I also suggest they walk up the hill to the Greenwich Observatory without turning round on the way up, so they get the surprise of the stunning view at the top.

Don't wander round aimlessly reading a map and blocking the pavement.

Join a casino the day you arrive - they need 24 hours notice - always handy for a bit of fun and very handy for a nice meal in the early hours of the morning.
