Apple Haiku

Acres of blossom -
Row upon row of neat petals
Pulling them in.

Orchards of peace
Identify the first bite -
Sweet taste of another world.

Juice flowing between narrow slats
An orange waterfall
That must be tasted.

Dark surrounds the vast barrels
Like a secret veil -
Months of doing its own thing.

Worth waiting for
First glass, first sip -
Squeak of a tap.

Stamped into the new cider's passport-
Silent nod,
Quiet murmur of approval.

- James Crowden

Hello all, the time has come to start planning for this years cider/perry. If anybody has any ideas or suggestions they should post them here, and perhaps we can arrange a meeting in the near future. If you haven't made cider before but feel like joining in, please do, you'd be very welcome.

Count us in. It was brilliant last year. And really is a case of the more the merrier.

Good work. As I was drooling on Friday, I think we should have a meeting soon.

{And if you're new to the cider thing, and it all sounds a bit daft, have a look at the photos - which you can find by searching on James' wonderful website - and perhaps check out the threads from last year. It was a great experience, and it brought a lot of us together in a weekend of great fun and hard work, and we made friends, and cider, and we're now having a lot of fun meeting up and drinking it. It might take up two or three days of your time in November, and a few odd hours in the months before and after, but it's been one of the best things I did last year. Urban artisans. Bringing cider back to where it never belonged.}

...if you press it, they will come.

We'll be back early Nov. so if it's after that we'll be on for a jolly weekend...well, the Professor is going to be serious cider recruit. Dont know about me, but I'll certainly enjoy coming along.

Count me in - although this year I gather I have to work and not just hang out in the kitchen with the goats...
