Am in Porto recovering from the trauma of the move from Bermondsey to Somerset. Yesterday we visited the Casa de Musica, designed by Rem Koolhass and finished last year, 4 years later than scheduled. Its a pretty amazing structure but the most interesting aspect to it is the committment to maintaining the building as a public structure. The buildingīs use seems to be entirely connected to the public and there seems, at this point, little in the way of beaurocratic structure or process obstructing public access or use.
I donīt know of any building in the UK which comes close to the model set by this building. In some ways, this was what I thought the GLA building was meant to be.
