if smokers are allowed smoking breaks (ie a ten minute break to go outside and smoke a fag and a chat, at any time of day, apparently as often as they like), should non smokers be allowed fresh air breaks, where they go outside, and walk around gossiping, for ten minutes?

i think that all computer users should have a ten minute break every hour anyway, and these could easily be combined.

Smokers aren't legally allowed fag breaks, it's at management's discretion. You're entitled to stop your employees going out for breaks except at lunchtime. Therefore fresh air breaks should be at management's discretion too.

Doesn't every cigarette take something like 8 minutes or so off your life on average? So they're getting 10 minutes off work but they're living 8 minutes less. Fresh air breaks should only be 2 minutes long to reflect this!

Jon,

You need a break.

...if you press it, they will come.

where is the fresh air around here then, you would need to add on half an hours travelling time each way, or you could just come in work an hour later
and if a cigarette takes eight minutes off your life does that mean that someone who is killed by a car, would still get killed by a car several hours later if they smoked
