And it doesn't need to be humane anymore as they have systematically destroyed all my plants on my balcony having ignored them for years ... all suggestions gratefully received!

Or these from the U.S.

Or failing that, I'll come round and shoot them for you*

*This is, of course, a tongue in cheek comment (except it's not.)

Wev'e had problems with the squirrals too , digging up and chewing all the spring bulbs. They have also dug up the window boxes, having said that, I enjoy watching the little buggers and I would not want them to move on. It has been an ongoing battle me replanting and the buggers digging them up again They do not just bury nuts, they also bury pizza, spare ribs, in fact, anything else they get their paws on. Bless :-)))

If you trap them, then you HAVE to kill them (by law, as they are "vermin").

Let us know how you get on if you decide to do something. They're also fond of trampling all over our little rhubarb plant and generally buggering about in Ivanhoe Acres.

I keep a loaded pellet gun to hand, and will jump up and take pot shots at any I see on our spread, but (contrary to my thoughts that it might put them off coming round for good) they jsut seem to take it as a game, and come back with all their mates later.

...if you press it, they will come.

I have a 22 and a 177 air rifle, both made by Original, both quite effective at culling squirrels, however I prefer the 177 as it makes less of a mess if you miss

mothballs are supposed to work, knowing your luck Ivanhoe they will be juggling with them first before lobbing them out of the pots!

have you tried feeding them poisoned nuts?

they'll probably die somewhere else (if you don't use too much), or maybe you could get one of those realy loud motion sensor alarms. everytime they get near it scares the hell out of 'em.

or set up some snares in appropriate places
