What about jewellery of some description which you could engrave?

If you are looking for something with a religious link, the shop at Westminster Cathedral is reasonably good. A really handsome Bible. Or a nice chain with small cruxifix.

It has to be said that generally Catholics do tat well. My middle name is Therese, and so I forced my right-footed husband to Liseaux when we were on hoiday nearby. Kitch rules OK. He was horrified.

I second Westminster Cathedral- I got someone a nice St Christopher's medal there once.

A crucifix or bracelet is a standard f/c gift. An engraved box for keepsakes can also be good.
