Hello ..

You may have remember previous posts about my website http://www.london2012rentmyhouse.com. Discussions about its future are still on-going and I must say LOCOG are being very reasonable. A likely outcome is a re-direct from this site to my 'new' site http://www.londonrentmyhouse.com.

I was interested to read in the Mail on Sunday today about Little Chef getting onto trouble with LOCOG about their Olympic Breakfast.

There was also a story last week about a Butcher in Weymouth who is using a board outside his shop with sausages making up the Olympic rings and 2012 written underneath. LOCOG have written to him.

The Britsh tax payers are in reality the main sponsors of the 2012 Games. If LOCOG are not going to allow British businesses and individuals to benefit from the Olympics then why should they use our tax to pay for it ?.

Micky ...

The Van with 'Olympic removals' also infringes LOCOG trademarks. I dont know how far LOCOG will be taking their brand protection policy ?? .... but if myself or the butcher are unable to use an Olympic Mark .... then I guess the Olympic removals cant either ? ...

Hello ...

You might remember the issues I ran into with my website ....

http://www.london2012rentmyhouse.com

The website is inspired by events during Sydney 2000 Olympics when local homeowners contributed to the Games by letting their homes. This was also presented a financial opportunity for them.

LOCOG have recognised my idea (including Seb Coe) - but due to the Olympic Act small / tiny businesses and individual tax payers are not allowed to use Olympic marks in any shape or form to benefit (even if it is to provide a service).

Of course, the rich sponsors need to be protected, but with the business opportunites the Games will bring to the UK (London in particular) should others - tax and national lottery paying sponsors - also be allowed to have a piece of the action?. The Tax Payers Alliance estimate the cost of the Games to reach 12.6 bn. Ouch!.

As for my website, media coverage to date (BBC, newspaper) can be seen on my website under 'media;. Discussion is still on going and I will provide an udpdate soon.

Your comments please .........

Regards

Matt

I thought it was funny that a butcher in an attempt to bring a smile to his customers faces made a shop sign showing different colours on sausages in 5 rings making the Olympic logo...he now has to remove it as it breaches copyright!

Jan.

Yes, I was very interested by the Butcher story (based in Weymouth). He was advertising his sausages on a board, which were shaped like the Olympic Rings. LOCOG have written to him. hmmm!.

This story is much like my website situation (which provides a valuable service to LOCOG) .... http://www.london2012rentmyhouse.com. See website for media coverage to date.

There was also a big story today in the Mail on Sunday about the Little Chef getting into trouble by using their Olympic breakfast!?....
http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=479317&in_page_id=1770

I am surprised LOCOG should choose to treat myself and the Butcher in the same way as an established large organisation like Little Chef!?.....

anyway,

The Britsh tax payers are in reality the main sponsors of the 2012 Games. If LOCOG are not going to allow British businesses and individuals to benefit from the Olympics then why should they use our tax to pay for it ?.

I've merged these two threads - though unfortunately the messages are now in the wrong order. Sorry about that.
