Our server (and therefore our websites) may be offline for a while sometime in the next day or so whilst our hosting company investigates a problem that is causing the machine to overheat and crash at random intervals.

Hopefully this will cure the problems we've been having with the server locking up and needed to be rebooted in the past week.

Thanks for your patience.

In addition to this morning's unscheduled downtime, the server is likely to be taken offline for investigation at about 5pm.

Scrap that, it's crashing so often that they're going to look at the server this morning.

The fan has now been changed and the CPU temperature is about half what it was before.

So hopefully no more random crashes!

The site is likely to be taken offline at some point Thursday/Friday to allow investigation of a possible memory fault on the server.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

All I can say is I hope October will be a better month than September!

Why don't you change your host?

If we have a repetition of recent events then I'd certainly consider it.

They've actually been reasonably helpful in the past week. It seems we've just had a run of bad luck.

Fingers crossed we've got to the bottom of the problem now.
