Would it be possible to add a line containing "Page last updated" to the header of the "Local News" items?
For example, the recent Tooley Street flood item was updated several times as the story unfolded and more details emerged - yet I was never quite sure if I had read the current page before. I could have seen at a glance if the details had changed by checking the time on the "Page last updated".
The BBC use this method - have a look at any news items on the News site.
