We [a group of parents from Cathedral School] are holding a dinner at a “pop-up restaurant” in the Cathedral School Redcross Way, SE1 1HG on the evening of Friday 12 November 2010 to raise funds for the Fikelela Project.

Chefs, Helio Fenerich and Pieter Maritz of Pestle and Mortar Events[1] and creators of the popular Bootleg Banquet[2] (“One of the Kings of the underground restaurant revolution[3]”), have generously offered their time and talent to bring to us our very own ‘underground restaurant'. They have designed a four-course menu for the Fikelela event, featuring flavours and dishes inspired by South African traditional cuisine.

Tickets cost 35 per person (bring your own bottle). Further donations would be welcome! By kind permission of Miss Morris, the head of the school, dinner will be served in the Cathedral School Hall at 20h00, doors open at 19h30.

Fikelela is the HIV programme of the Anglican Church in the Diocese of Cape Town, South Africa. Fikelela has 3 main focuses: support for HIV orphans, care and support for people living with HIV and awareness and prevention work.
The Fikelela Children's Centre provides short-term residential care for children with no extended family to take them in. 60% of the children are HIV positive and very often they have tuberculosis as well. Sadly many of the children have suffered neglect when they arrive at Fikelela; undernourished and sick. Fikelela nurses the children back to health and administers anti retroviral drugs where necessary. Fikelela identifies Foster carers in the community, they are trained and screened and children are placed back in the community. Fikelela is making a very real difference to the lives of some of the most vulnerable children in South Africa.

Do come and join us, support Fikelela and enjoy a gastronomic experience. Places at the Fikelela Underground Restaurant are limited to 60 people so book soon to avoid disappointment.

To buy tickets: please PM me asap

There will also be an auction and raffle with tickets on sale on the night.
