If you enjoy cooking and like meeting new people you may want to consider joining the London SE1 dinner club. For a few years now (Yes we are still going but have been rather lapse at posting here) we have been meeting in each others homes approximately once a month usually on a Friday or Saturday to enjoy good food, wine and company.

Over time the group has grown and changed, with some people leaving and new faces joining so it continues to be a brilliant way of meeting new people, as well as meeting up with old friends.

We meet in groups of six (which change so it is not the same group of six people at each dinner) and take it in turns to host a dinner party or contribute, either one of the courses or the accompanying wine to a course. As we all contribute to the meal, it has the fabulous advantage of spreading both the cost and the work involved making it a great credit crunching social activity.

It is open for anyone who lives in SE1 and it would be lovely to have some new people join the group. We work out the groups on a 6 month rota so each person gets to do each thing once but don't worry if you are new you will not be asked to host a group straight away. The host will try to arrange a date for each dinner party to suit everyone at that meal but if you can not make it one month there is usually a reserve willing to step in, in your place.

We have just started a new rota but why not join us as a reserve. As a reserve who wants to join the rota you will be given priority if a place becomes vacant at one of the dinners, its a good way to find out what we are about with out fully committing to begin with, although we hope you will enjoy it so much you will want to go on the next rota.

Interested? Heres the menu from one of the march dinners - It was good but my memory of the exact wines (written down but lost) and details are a bit hazy.

spinach and goats cheese fitters (an exploding disaster which looked a mess so no photos but tasted good)
cava

saffron chicken with a herb salad
a white Spanish wine

Pork and chorizo stew with mixed roots, cabbage and kale

- Only difference here is I made it the night before then reheated for several hours in a slow cooker on the night)

Summer (we can dream) Quark Dessert with berries and fresh strawberries
new Zealand late harvest riesling (I love this wine)

Chicken in tomato and yoghurt sauce with couches and salad
Wines McGuigan Estate Chardonnay and Hardy's Varietal Range Chardonnay

Lemon Posset with Grilled figs
Wines: Prosecco with Chambered
