Can anyone recommend a good local solicitor, please? I have been quoted £1100+VAT by a law firm at London Bridge which seems a lot.

Try Alex hare at Sterling partnership solicitors 230 Borough High Street. I have just sold and bought through him and he is very approachable, friendly and efficient

You should be able to get it done for £700-800 (inc VAT).
I would recommended Jonathan Nokes at Jackson Nokes in Royal Oak Yard.
Also, don't be afraid to haggle with solicitors - they are likely to bring the price down a bit if it means stopping you going somewhere else.
