My friend wants to move into the SE1 area around Bermondsey Street and was wondering about rents. He's looking for a nice 2br apartment with a carpark.Anyone able to suggest a ballpark figure?

Depends what you mean by nice.

325-400 a week, I reckon. The parking space will be the sticking point.

We pay 285, a bit further out (just into SE16). No parking space (no parking at all, frankly, but no need for it for us), but a big living room and two bathrooms.

This looks passable.

Often ex-local authority places have parking and are much more reasonable. Not sure about 2 beds and it depends on the area of SE1 but I think it is quite reasonable compared to a lot of London.

You're looking at about 350-400 per week, but this depends on the detail of exactly where you are, and how old the property is. Lots of rental flats don't have a parking space, or the landlord will charge you extra for this - typically several hundred pounds per month extra

Beingjdc - that's scarcely on Bermondsey Street.

No, fair cop, it's a good 500 yards away. Still, it's more than twice as near to Bermondsey Street as I am, and I consider myself 'not all that far' :)

Does anywhere on actual Bermondsey Street have parking, except maybe Tyers Gate? Someone underground? I'd be tempted to look for a decent flat and then someone subletting a parking space nearby...

All perception. As an estate agent pointed out to me, those 500 yards can take a girl tottering in silly heels fifteen minutes or more.

Melford Court - at the top end of Grange Road - has parking http://www.propertyfinder.com/cgi-bin/rsearch?a=o&id=501307204
