Hi all, i am interested in getting hold of a certain piece of property in SE1, i know the building have a flat in it but i don't think it is classed as a residential property. the previous occupier went bankrupt i believe and i would like to take it over but can't get hold of him and no anser when i ring. how do i find out who the mortgage/lease was with and go about purchasing it asap??

the land registry office was my first guess but i can't believe that the only way to find out who owns something is to pay some scalping company for information that should be freely available.

any help much appreciated,

I suppose it's a fair assumption that you are looking to make a significant financial gain out of purchasing the building, so it's a bit rich to refer to the Land Registry fee of a few quid as 'scalping'.

The Land Registry is the place to go and the fee is 3, hardly likely to break the bank.

plenty of companies online that specialise in this kind of thing if the land registry doesnt have the info:

You can use this site to find owners of property
