Hi all, i am interested in getting hold of a certain piece of property in SE1, i know the building have a flat in it but i don't think it is classed as a residential property. the previous occupier went bankrupt i believe and i would like to take it over but can't get hold of him and no anser when i ring. how do i find out who the mortgage/lease was with and go about purchasing it asap??
the land registry office was my first guess but i can't believe that the only way to find out who owns something is to pay some scalping company for information that should be freely available.
I suppose it's a fair assumption that you are looking to make a significant financial gain out of purchasing the building, so it's a bit rich to refer to the Land Registry fee of a few quid as 'scalping'.
