I was on the C10 again this morning, earlier than I usually take it. It only stopped at about half the stops between Rotherhithe and Long Lane. There was plenty of room for people to squeeze up and make more space but only once did the driver switch on the announcement for people to make more room. Refusing to let people on at a stop just before lots get off is shameless behaviour. Only once did anyone complain, and that was when a bloke had walked from the stop that where he'd been refused on, to the next stop in time to catch it. The school kids who hadn't done likewise were all probably destined to be late for school... This line badly needs more or bigger buses. The minor recent improvement is just not enough.

Without me (re)reading all the way through this thread, can anyone tell me where I can write a complaint to (and any appropriate place to cc to)? I was on the Horseferry Road quite late last night, not feeling all that good at all. I'd used the route on Tuesday to get to and from St Thomas' Day Surgery unit without trouble, for a very minor op. Then rested for the recommended 24 hours and thought I was fine to go out to something on the same direct bus route. I waited for more than 45 minutes. Saw one bus go by with all numbers and signs switched off but was not worried, sure I could wait. When finally a bus steamed past at full belt, in quite an aggressive manner, it was nearly more than I could cope with. If I hadn't taken a taxi then, I'd have had to wait for an hour, but the thought that the next bus might do the same thing, did not help the situation. I'm actually now having another day off work today and I'm sure if one of the buses I might have taken in that time had come and actually stopped, then I would be at work today, albeit feeling slightly ropey. I've always been aware of the importance of this service to both Guy's and St T's and yesterday I really got the raw end of it!! It is beyond me how any bus driver in their right mind at gone 11pm at night can do that. I was not accompanied, though by that time there were also others waiting. Noone else who'd waited anything like as much time so I failed to get interest in a taxi-share. Are the drivers following instructions from on high when they do this? I've seen it happen before, but never when I was quite so desperate to get home.

On Tuesday when I got to the bus stop, a van was just driving away that had covered the stop in signs saying it was closed due to road works. (There were none.) I walked to the next stop, just in case, but was curious to see if the bus stopped or not. It didn't, and of course a passenger was complaining when I boarded. I too told him it was ridiculous. The driver shouted out to the van driver who'd also stopped - quite chuffed with himself to get the affirmation that the stop was closed. Again, this is utterly senseless...

there are a lot of road works on the route at the moment- there is a diversion at Ebury Bridge so buses going a longer way round, road works at London Road, The Borough and Jamaica road so doing well to keep on track

I am 6"4, so on the old bus I could only sit on one back seat, the seats at the front for the elderly or the two seats at the very front where my knees would get in the way of people walking past. I only really get the C10 to work from Pimlico, and at least there it is on time 90% of the time. On the way home I generally get the 188/381 to waterloo and change for the 507 but if I see the C10 I will leg it to Abbey Street from Jamaica Road.

Today's reply from TFL:

Thank you for your email regarding the service problems of bus route C10.

From 08.00 Monday 14 March until 16.00 Thursday 30 June C10 buses will experience serious delays due to Victorian mains replacement works on Jamaica Road.

Also I am sure I don’t have to tell you that we expect the very highest standards of courtesy and behaviour from all of our staff and this is especially true of bus drivers. We understand that they are in many ways the face of London Buses, and realise how important it is that they are polite and as helpful as possible when dealing with members of the public and doing their job.

Abellio operate the C10 service on our behalf, and I have contacted them to let them know what you have told me about the attitude of some of their drivers. They will remind all drivers to speak clearly and politely to the public at all times.

Thank you for your comments and please do not hesitate to be in contact if I can be of any further assistance.

Yours sincerely

Yeah, I guess. I had my first experience of the new C10 today - not for want of trying, but everywhere I get the C10 I have a backup option that's more regular but slightly less convenient, so I get on whatever comes first.

I thought the journey was much smoother. My fears were somewhat justified - the new buses have the same number of seats, 28, as the old ones, but the extra standing capacity (29 rather than 19) is additional rather than at the expense of seats, and taken together with the back doors does make for a less cramped experience even when the bus is close to full.

There was a funny smell. Will find out next time I get a C10 whether that was the bus or the passengers I guess.

normally they open the front doors as the bus is clearing at the back which avoids the melee with most people having cleared the front area so people can get on-this is the general way it is done on most routes i have travelled on. I think it was more the time they take to open and close the doors that is of concern-we sat there for a good 20 seconds between the back doors closing and the front one opening which caused a lot of delay

they were a bit better this moring although one lady did get thrown off as there was a double buggy in the wheelchair bit and she could not squeeze hers in and it was ruled dangerous as blocking the exit

No, this is quite deliberate when the buses are full and in my view a very good thing.

What happens if you open both doors at once on a full bus is that people who are near the front doors try to get off at them, charging into a crowd of people who have all surged to the door to try and cram themselves onto the packed bus. Meanwhile, at the back door, there are usually a few enterprising youngsters trying to squeeze themselves on - whether out of fear that they won't get on at the front because the bus is too crowded, or in the hope of getting a free ride while the driver is distracted by the melee at the front.

I don't want to generalise, but... erm, actually I'm going to: most bus drivers have not been to charm school, on this route or any other. I often witness bus drivers communicating with individual passengers using abrupt, ill-mannered grunts. There have been exceptions, but not enough to disprove the rule. Maybe it's something that the job just does to you after a while. Maybe if I became a bus driver I'd be the same. I'd like to think not, but there's only one way to find out. And... well, no thanks.

Another unpleasant C10 experience.

A guy got on a very empty C10 at Elephant & Castle with a very small kiddies bike.
The driver rudely shouted at him to get off as he did not take bikes on HIS bus. The man said it was small and could go in the luggage rack but the driver turned the engine off and said 'I am not going anywhere until you get off, so get off or deal with the police'
Other passengers could not believe the stupidity of this driver but the bloke had to get off or the driver would not move as he continued his 'get off, no bikes' rant.
I think the bloke was only going a couple of stops to pick up a kid from school.

I wonder how it feels to be so insignificant that you have to exert your 'power' as a C10 bus driver.

The yellow number on the side was 242 and it was 3.15pm. I will forward this on to the garage.

i had the misfortune to travel on one recently which "terminated" at the tate. no announcement was made and a slanging match ensued between the driver and remaining passengers. With no advice or direction he closed the doors and continued onto the vauxhall road stop, dropping people off as usual. he then astoundingly drove off at a mad pace, hitting a cyclist (fortunately he was not badly injured) speeding off directly toward victoria down vauxhall bridge road and stopped at Victoria station. Never mind the fact that I and the remaining passengers wanted to get off at the stops between Pimlico and Victoria on the regular route!

Sadly Im used to being ejected at the tate, and even that would have been preferable to the run back to work from Victoria at that point.

Please someone tell me the date this farce of a route will change?! Ive started taking the tube again to cope with the annoyance!
well today was the third morning in a row we were kicked off at the Tate which is very annoying-I have complained and was told that bus companies only do this in exceptional circumstances - it happens nearly evey day on the C10 and the only thing exceptional on this route is the fact it is so bad and even the driver agreed this morning!
This is what I have dealt with for ages commuting at peak time on the C10 - terminating early at Tate Britain because of heavy traffic at the Elephant, road works, or because one or two drivers are lazy and don't care. There was a period of about six months where I knew I would be kicked off at Tate Britain at least twice or three times a week. All it took was a little squawk from the radio and I knew straightaway. Now, that's the controller doing that, but some of those drivers STILL terminate early seemingly on their own whims and really do need to go.

it is frustrating Jan in particular when we are constantly told to use public transport and then find it is not up to the job. Many people rely on this route to get to St Thomas' or Guys following the reallocation of services in particular the old or infirm so you would think having a decent service would be a priority.
