Is he including VAT? - I bet not. The above is a quote I had from 2 years ago, this included chasing in the shower (so it goes in the wall rather than being screwed on the front of the wall), just to give you an idea. I certainly think it's expensive, depends on the market rate though - always the same advice though - get 3 quotes if you can get them to come round!

Hello
I recently had a quote for some plumbing work.
I basically need a new bath- mine is a bit scruffy looking. I also had a leak recently into my neighbour's flat. Nothing serious, the plumber said it was just a bit of dampness from the shower which sits over our bath- water had run down the tiles, found a hole to get through and made his ceiling a little bit damp.
It was easily fixed with a bit of sealant.
Plumber tells me that to make it absolutely water tight for the future we should really take some of the tiles off above the bath, and put some plywood on the wall to waterproof it more, then retile.
As my husband and I were thinking of getting a new bath in the new year sales, I asked the plumber to quote me for installing the new bath as well.
This will be a standard size bath to replace the one we already have.
He has come back with a quote of £590 NOT including the bath. A basic bath plus panels looks like it will be 200 quid. We already have nice taps etc.
So in total, £790 plus.
Now, I'm not an expert but this seems like an astronomical amount to me.
£590 he says, includes materials (ie plywood, grout, sealant) ands labour.
My husband already has sealant and we also have spare tiles. So it looks like £590 for a bit of plywood and labour.
Does this sound steep to you?
Can anyone give me any advice as this just seems like an enormous amount of money to me.
Thanks
Sarah
