It still exists. There is a cafe there at present because they can not get the barrels delivered whilst the building work is going on. But once that is done and the deliveries can get in its opening up as normal.

Family Mosaic have only this week emailed/called to arrange an opening day tomorrow, however they have not provided any details, said it would arrive in an email....I think they are trying to drum up as much interest as possible, I wonder how much real interest there is on the scheme.

Also, how many people living in Southwark, who are first time buyers, earning 35-40k approx. per annum that are interested, reading the articles it seems there are 2 worlds in the apartment block, you have the first time/ part buy part rent buyers in one section (floors 2-10) and the private/buy to let (floors 11-41) on another section, both served by their own dedicated lift (1 for floors 2-10 and 2 for the other floors.

The Times:

The Modernist dream of “streets in the sky” is proudly reclaimed by Black, who compares Strata to “a street turned on its side, with flats at one end and mansions at the other”

I am not so sure now!

But secondly, was also quizzing the price tag @ £255K+ does this sound reasonable for the locality/type of accommodation on offer? what are the potential risks involved in such a purchase ie services charges and what it covers (should i ask for written specifics?) what does the developers guarantee cover etc?
Ok, so was looking into this development ie Strata SE1 with the intention of buying a 1 bed.
I understand that these are lease hold, but are they shared ownership??
if so, what percentage do you actually buy a value of?
What if you decide to buy it as a normal leasehold, is this possible?
the one i was looking at was a 1 bed at £259K
I just wished that a building like Castle House which to a certain extent is offering its residents with views over London wouldn't have chosen to build one so close to another tower. It seems just too close to be leaving your curtains open in your Castle House apartment facing it.
Now imagine what it must be like for a Draper House resident - having had spectacular views over London for 45 years to then suddenly have to look at a new building at such close proximity.
Ah well, at least if nothing of interest is on on TV one can look out of the window and see what happens in the 400 flats next door!
true - hence my issue with Multiplex rather. Is Draper House purely residential?

I also wonder what demographics residents of Castle House will consist of.
well the first third of the main tower is going to be managed by a housing association so that will be decided by them - as for the private ones, it depends on the proportion of BTL i guess.

really the owners there need to be working with the builders now to get them to help fund a residents group in the building - once they have moved on it will be much harder as residents would need to go through the managing agent to contact people who may not reside on site. would expect huge unpredictability in service charge costs there as the wind turbines are a bit of an unknown so leaseholders should really look to do something now. there seems to be an 'inhabit' page on the website, but no indication of whether there would be an officially recognised resident association.
Indeed it may do but it is still very drab and grey....and brings me back to the point I made many months ago on here about Strata and which applies to Draper House too....whilst Strata may be a nice contemporary building in itself the location on a small footprint crammed between Draper House and the railway line really does neither building any favours.
That's precisely what I was trying to say since the start of this thread.....
But hey, too late now. Time to get used to reality and try to live with it!
Oh dear, I wonder if you're purposely trying to goad me here. Draper House has some architectural features from the first post war regeneration, which make it quite special, some would say unique.
I for one would say it's quite unique and special too.

It's a very distinctive 'Corbusian'
building, carefully designed as well as very solid constructed and certainly not built on the cheap as it was the new landmark building back in the day.
The white strips (admittedly not so white right now) are apparently white sicilian marble mosaic - not what you usually would expect from a council block!
Inside, the flats are fantastic, each with a balcony and good sized rooms and extensively glazed areas allowing lots of daylight into the flats.
The communal corridor accessing the flats is super wide and double height with natural daylight. You simply can't get anything like this in any new build these days - thats a fact.

I read it was the tallest residential building in London when completed, but surely would have been overtaken very soon. How funny Strata next door is now the tallest for a couple of months before it will be over taken too.....

I am wondering if Strata got that sort of white and black cladding to tie in with Draper House which is pretty much white and black itself?
Another similarity is the long strip above Strata's front door which in some way is similar to Draper House with it's white strips intersected by the little glass boxes sticking out....

Draper House features in a book written by Herbert Wright, titled:
London High: A Guide to the Past, Present and Future of London's Skyscrapers

And some further interesting reading on this site:
Postwarbuildings

Not all that glitters is gold - and vice versa too me thinks.
