I only found this thread because I had such an appalling experience, I wanted to check I wasn't dreaming!

The guy who runs this place ('Enis') is extremely rude, demanding money up-front, challenging customers' orders, ordering you to share a table with someone else even when half the cafe is empty.

I got into a slanging match after he opened the door on a cold October day (well, if I'd wanted my coffee outside, I'd've ordred take away). Long story short, he tried to physically extracate me, and I was as close as I've been in the last decade to lamping someone.

Don't give them your money
The coffee is like sludge

I'd never noticed this thread, but just read that link that James put on. How incredibly odd, is there really a kitchen covered in aluminum leading to a dirty serving hatch?

Enis's cafe is almost certainly London's worst cafe. I had always wondered why no customers had ever set foot in there - now I know. The only reason I escaped was a 999 call to the police, who came to let us out.

Myself and six friends ordered cooked breakfasts from Enis's wife. They were priced at £5.95, so we were expecting something pretty substantial. Instead, we were served an undercooked rasher of bacon, an overcooked sausage, a slice of grilled tomato, a fried egg and a tablespoon of baked beans.

When I complained about the portion size Enis and his wife immediately went on the defensive, saying I was merely showing off infront of my friends. They then served me toast - with each slice proudly displaying mould on its crust.

I told Enis that there was no way I'd be paying for this - his response was to lock the front door, square up to me and threaten to give me a black eye. Him and his wife then went on a verbal rampage, calling us every name under the sun.

When he got physical my girlfriend called 999 and two police cars promptly arrived, meaning we could leave the premises after 20 surreal and scary minutes.

The cafe is currently under investigation by Lambeth Council for potential hygiene breaches.

Hopefully it won't be around for much longer. Until then, I strongly urge you not to go there.

Even more unlikely, but not at all eccentric, is the hairdressers approx 100m towards the old vic.
