Yes ads are paid for and quite agree that people should not be allowed to get away with posting free ads, if it can be helped. But James does a pretty good job at spotting them and I along with others hopefully help by pressing the report to moderator when I see this blatantly happening. No doubt James would spot them eventually but by reporting it will help him spot and remove them quicker

What disappoints us is that we seemed to have been dragged into this, purely by a fan of ours stating her delight in us. Can you really be too OTT over something that really floats your own particular boat? That fan then has her judgement and character questioned. My business partner and I feel very deflated and have spent an afternoon trying to construct a reply that is succint, honest and based on fact. This then also affects my life partner. It's very hard not to become too emotionally involved in what you are very proud of and then unfounded accusations are levelled at a person that loves what we love to do.

I think any disparraging comments levelled at any individual or business that are unfounded, without basis and deragatory should be deleted and the persons account removed from the site. I totally agree with freedom of speech based on honesty and fact. We also encourage open constructive feedback, we are trying to build our business around it.
And as James said and I said before that, we KNOW that the site is policed most effectively by James and anyone trying to flog services is generally picked up within a post or two. Bankside1 seems to have a problem.

thank you for you response. Please could you tell me where I say "amazing questions". No need to respond, this is why I am leaving. Freedom of speech no longer exists even in SE1. I had followed this site for a long time, even when out of UK, but if you need people to point out where there are misuse of this website, then even more of a point for me to leave. thank you for a good website in the beginning.
Bankside1 - I'm sorry if you've had a bad experience, but as your post was some time before the Leather Exchange one (which is rather OTT but I have no reason to suspect foul play - being enthusiastic isn't a crime yet), I'm a bit puzzled as to what you are talking about.

Please either reply here or contact me with details of what/who you think is wrong, and I'll look at it.

What are the "amazing questions" to which you refer?

I think you're being a bit dramatic in saying the forum is "completely unreliable" - it's neither reliable nor unreliable - it's as good as the people who take the time to participate. Yes, of course you have to apply your critical faculties to any recommendation, but the same goes with all sorts of things in life.

I am grateful to those who regularly report messages they think are dodgy - I always follow up reported posts, and if there is evidence of foul play I will name and shame (and/or just delete the post if it's plain spam).

However, if there's no evidence of foul play, then I won't comment publicly or cast aspersions.

There's nothing worse than a genuine first-time poster signing up to the forum to recommend a local shop or whatever and being greeted with a barrage of cynicism that puts them off ever commenting again.
