Wobbly Bridge to reopen this week

The Millennium Bridge is to reopen to the public on Friday.

The bridge swayed under the weight of thousands of visitors following its opening in June 2000 and was shut after just three days.

Since then, £5 million of modification work has been carried out on the structure, which links Bankside with St Paul's Cathedral. Now, following extensive tests and a recent trial with volunteers, the £18.2 million bridge is ready to open again.

More than 160,000 people crossed the bridge during its opening weekend during which the swaying effect was noticed.
