September 11 at Southwark Cathedral

London SE1 website team

Southwark Cathedral is open all day on September 11 for a Requiem Mass and a special lecture.

The lunchtime Requiem Mass with music begins at 12.45pm in the hour which the first attack took place.

In the evening Professor Lawrence Freedman will deliver a lecture at Southwark Cathedral on the ethics of the war on terror. The lecture begins at 6.30 pm, after 5.30 Evening Prayer, and will last
about 40 minutes to be followed by questions.

The Dean, the Very Rev Colin Slee, says: "It is our intention that there should be suitable opportunities for people to pray during the day but also that the Cathedral should provide an occasion for some serious reflection and well informed thought. Professor Freedman is an eminent academic of world-renown. We are very privileged that he has agreed to give this lecture. It illustrates once again the close co-operation between the Cathedral and King's College.”
