Police appeal for witnesses after death of man found in Cole Street

A local man found suffering from head injuries in Cole Street on Monday has died in hospital. Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police have named the dead man as Gheorghe Agiurgioaei, a 47-year-old Romanian national who lived in Trinity Church Square.

An ambulance was called at approximately 5pm on Bank Holiday Monday 31 May to reports of a man who had collapsed on Cole Street.

On arrival paramedics found a man suffering head injuries and he was transferred to St Thomas' Hospital where he died on Wednesday 2 June.

A post-mortem on Friday at Greenwich mortuary did not establish a formal cause of death and further tests are now being carried out.

Detectives from Southwark are investigating and are treating the death as unexplained at this stage.
