Child’s torso found in Thames near Bankside

Police have launched a murder investigation after the dismembered body of a young boy was found floating in the Thames near Shakespeare's Globe on Bankside.

The child's body – minus its head, arms and legs – was spotted by a member of the public on Tower Bridge on Friday and recovered by River Police further upstream.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said a sharp-bladed instrument had been used to dismember the youngster's body.

Police said the body was that of a black Afro-Caribbean boy of around five-and-a-half years.
