Careful if you are lactose intolerant you will get a rant
Went in this morning as fancied a bacon sandwich, ordered and then thought I'll have a coffee as well. I like coffee flavour but I am caffeine and lactose sensitive so asked for a decaf soya latte. I watch owner (I can only assume) ring it up on the till and my latte went from £2 to £2.40 to £2.80 as he added 40p on for both the decaf and the soya. When I asked him he immediately got defensive and said that I would get charged in Starbucks and Costa. Well Costa doesn't charge for either (I think) and Starbucks doesn't charge extra for either. Caffe Nero charges for decaf so I don't buy there. Apparently I was having a laugh, as I hadn't actually paid I asked just to take the bacon sandwich, he simply gave me back all my money and refused to serve me at all!! Left feeling very disappointed, bacon sandwich-less and bemused by such the situation ... what a strange way to behave towards customers. So just make sure you know what you are going to get charged for as this one doesn't like being challenged!
Don't do it
Well what can I say about the Café ‘Over The Moon’…….
This is certainly not the exact phrase to use for the experience I had on the 1st July 2012. It was absolutely diabolical and non existent to be honest.
Firstly when we got in there we was greeted by a young lad who keep running his hands through his hair and not even washing them after, our order was taken quickly and was scribbled down barely readable (maybe this is why it all went wrong) and we were made to feel rushed to giving it, as a large group of French students had turned up after us.
We then went to sit down in the outside seating area which I must say was alright for where it was.
Then it all started, bad, bad, bad service…..
After about 20 minutes, the large group of French students were served before us all except 1 or 2 who’s orders they got wrong and then staff seemed to wonder about like a lost souls trying to get rid of this extra fish and chips (which funny enough was one of the 5 meals we had ordered along with drinks which we had not got yet!!!) when this member of staff decided to walk outside she walk up to us and asked if we had ordered it (now 22 minutes after ordering) and we said yep along with, and reeled of our order to her, and amazingly this is when the drinks slowly and again slowly started to turn up, first 2 cups of tea, then the lad brought out my coffee of which was half in the saucer and dropped it on the table in front of me and when I tasted it the milk had been burnt and was undrinkable. We were still waiting for 2 cans of diet coke and 4 meals at this point (25minutes after ordering).
Other people we still being served and had had their drinks and gone by the time we had got to this point. Then 3 more meals turn up and still no cans of drink, so we went to get them and asked how long will the last meal be and was told a couple of minutes (now 32 minutes after ordering) the full ordered was completed.
During this time 2 of the staff kept popping out to the seating area to look at us as we ate our food, why I don’t know, but for some reason they wanted to.
After this experience I would not return here and certainly would not recommend this place unless you like bad service and to be forgotten about until you speak up.
The only good thing about this whole experience was when we went to pay we didn’t need to say a word and was offered the meal at 50% discount, surely they knew their service was bad……
Disappointing!
After waiting for my coffee and toasted sandwich I asked the staff why others had been serviced before me. I was advised that they couldn't remember the "others" having been served before me - which was strange considering only 2 people had been served SINCE me. I questioned this and was told by the person making my sandwich that regulars often get served faster as they start making their food when they see them arrive - which was also strange as I watched them make the sandwiches in front of me, after ordering my own - we had all ordered the same bacon sandwich so why couldn't the 1st lot of bacon go in my sandwich?! I questioned this and was bombarded by rude and disrespectful comments from 2 or 3 of the staff as I left. Ironically the coffee was burt and teh sandwich was 2 pieces of normal white bread and fatty bacon - and wasn't cheap! There are few I would go this far to not recommend - take that as you will!
