Gambit - Raimi Gbadamosi

Child's Play is an investigation by Raimi Gbadamosi into the playfulness of language. This is an exploration of language before the weight of knowledge renders 'what is seen' into 'what was thought'.

The works are deliberately set up for easy contemplation, and yet this is never as simple as it originally seems. To play is to engage in an activity for enjoyment and recreation rather than for practical reasons, however children are good at masking their social engagements behind a screen of play.

The familiar motifs of black, white, and yellow are combined in childish combinations to demonstrate the vicissitudes of language and our ease in accepting its proffered codes. Games, flashing lights, wax drawings; movable floor pieces all combine to make a site of playfulness. Underlying questions remain, but for this moment come & play.
