Erik van Lieshout

With a sensibility that recalls an avant-garde Ali G, Erik van Lieshout creates hilarious, politically-biting video installations that explore European liberalism in an era when rightwing figures such as Geert Wilders (maker of the anti-Islam documentary 'Fetna') have become a powerful political force.

For this show, his first solo show in the UK, he is developing a new video installation, based on his recent attempt to open a 'shop for ideas' in a low rent shopping mall in Rotterdam South, a working class area of the city with a large immigrant population.

Erik Van Lieshout represented the Netherlands in the 2003 Venice Biennale.
