By Thomas Dekker (1599).

Old Fortunatus was first presented at court before Elizabeth I at Christmas 1599. An ingenious mixture of morality play, theatrical spectacle and down-to-earth comedy, Old Fortunatus follows the careers of Fortunatus, a man raised and brought low by Fortune, and his two sons, the virtuous Ampedo and the prodigal Andolocia. The action ranges between Cyprus, the Ottoman Empire and medieval England, as Dekker warns against greed, pride and the dangers of exotic travel.
