Lalla Ward returns to the National Theatre with a new exhibiton.
Again, her primary theme is wildlife, but her medium now includes ceramics as well as the fabric of Stranded. These animals and plants, and sometimes pattern and object, are migrating from embroidery on silk, velvet and cotton to the glaze of bowls and plates, in pictures, table-runners and mats. Small, round plates imagine themselves to be microscopes and x-rays, detailing a part of the embroidered animal underneath; plants begin life on linen, entwine themselves around a bowl and through it, to reappear in stitches beyond.
